Man, do I hate listening to kids play exams. Balls.

e
TV thoughts.

I was watching Oprah interview the Will and Grace cast the other day and it got me thinking. There are a few episodes of a few comidies that always make me laugh- even if I've seen them a thousand times. Here's my list

Will and Grace- The 1st Just Jack Episode. Especially the Rosario "Solamente Jack" comment
Seinfeld- A toss up here. I like the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat episode and the Ass Man
about the same.
Friends- No matter how many times I see it, I fall over laughing at the Game Show episode.
You remember, the one where Ross host a Jeopardy style contest to see who gets to
keep the apartment- "Big Fat Goalie!"
The Simpson- Hands down my favorite 30 minutes of TV ever! The Gummy Venus DeMilo.
"Sweet Candy..."

Anatomy of a sleep disorder...

So we have these two kids right. They're both great, I love them, I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Here's the flip side.

Recitative was like among the Earth's best sleepers. She started sleeping 6-8 hours at 10 weeks and was sleeping 12 hours by 6 months. We thought we had this great master plan. Since Kaphy is a booby-feeder we would keep the very young babies in the bed with us so that she could sleep. With Recitative this was like 4 weeks max. Then we'll put them in a bassinet by our bed so that it will be really easy to get them and feed them in the night. Did this for like another month. Then we'll move them to their own bed in their own room. Great plan, right?

Here's part 2. Recitative was born in late April. The rough transitions- to bassinet, to her own bed were in the summer. Who needs sleep in the summer? You can sleep in until noon- and we sometimes did after a hard night. Big Daddy was born in October. This means that all of the rough transitions are in LGPE time... so they got ignored or pushed back.

The result? At 4 months Big Daddy still slept with us. She would go ape shit when she was not in our bed. We knew we were the problem, but we still had to sleep at night. We'd 1/2 heartedly try for a couple of days to force her into her bed, then after 2 nights of 2 hours sleep, we'd give up.

So that brings us to today. As of a week ago Big Daddy was still only sleeping 3-4 at a stretch. We bit the bullet. She's going in her bed, damn it. We put her in the pack y play next to our bed. from 9-midnight, cool. At midnight she would cry for 2 hours and finally go to sleep. Sucky, but OK because she would then sleep until 6. We've now moved the p y p into her room. Now we turn the monitor down real low and this is how it goes. 8 pm- bed. 11:15 pm wake up and eat one last time. Back to bed- cry for God only knows how long 'cause we go back to sleep. Wake up at 6 am. For 3 count 'em 3 nights in a row we have gotten 6 hours of consecutive sleep. Thank God.

The only problem now is that when Grandpa is over at bed time it rips him up to hear her cry...

Just sharing,

I am hesitant to even start this thread, but this has been tugging at me for a long time.

When did our desire as a people- the American people- become to make as much money as possible? It seems in listening to my friends and co-workers that all anyone cares about is how much money is in their pockets. I hate that. It is very cliche to say, but I don't want to teach my children values like "those people are taking away money that should be mine" or "federal policy must help the individual keep their money". I would rahter teach- "take care of yourslef first, but then help others" and "we are all in the same boat". I know this puts me directly at odds with most of the people who will read this, but I want to say it out loud.

We are greedy. Me too. I just hate that our whole culture has become this way. What are the terrorists fighting against? Not our freedoms as we are told! They're fighting against Godless materialism. That is what we have become. No radical has ever said 'down with America and her right to vote!'. What I hear is 'down with America and her consumer culture and sex for sale'.

Am I alone here? Does anyone still care about helping others? Please tell me I 'm wrong, I want to hear someone tell me how our current politics espouse anything but greed. I need to have my faith in America reaffirmed.

Two things to piss you all off today. The first 'fact' is unconfirmed.

1. The CEO of Exxon/Mobil makes $18,000 AN HOUR.

2. The modern American business that works is that of Henry Ford. His entire concept was that employees should be able to afford the things that they make.

OK. So May 20th is the Guy's Day. If it's just me that can go, that's fine. I'm getting hammered and acting stupid. Maybe the cab driver will enjoy it. Any and all are welcome. Please post comments on what you think we should do that day. Circle jerk is NOT an acceptible option.

So I went to a concert at my future school tonight. Of all of the concerts I have ever been to, this may be the most unique. Was it the 8 minute Matador march that the percussion improvised? Or the quarter note equals 60 version of Chardas? Was it the student led Egmont Overture for semi-full orchestra, in which the conductor ould randomly change patterns and lose half of the group? Was it the Earth's loudest band? Was it the jazz band in which I never heard the horns over the Rock and Roll drums? No. What takes the cake you ask?????

It was the 8 minute samba played by the percussion ensemble. Now, I've been around the block but I still didn't know a few things. Like that a Samba and a Matador March were the same thing. Like that the Clave pattern is not 3 plus two, but 2.5 plus 2.5. I also didn't know that it WAS OK TO HAVE CONGA LINE GO AROUND YOUR BAND CONCERT AT THE DIRECTOR'S REQUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just damn. Just damn.
